CHERRY & BUTTERY CARAMEL
A delicate Kenyan coffee with nuanced floral aromatics, complemented by very bright and juicy fruit notes such as cherry, raspberry and red grape, and a buttery caramel finish.
ORIGIN: Kenya
PRODUCER: Kiunyu Washing Station
REGION: Kiandumu, Kirinyaga
GROWING ALTITUDE: 1670 m.
VARIETAL: Batian, Ruiru 11, SL28, SL34
PROCESS: Fully washed
ROAST PROFILE: Medium (espresso roast).
This fully washed lot is cultivated by over 1,900 smallholders in Kirinyaga. Smallholders selectively handpick only the ripest cherries and deliver them to the Kiunyu Washing Station, where the cherries are meticulously sorted, pulped and dry fermented for 16-20 hours.
Following fermentation, the coffee is washed in clean water and laid to dry on raised beds for 20 days. To ensure even drying, the parchment is covered during the hottest hours of the day, to maintain a slow and even drying.
