Acatenango is located in southern Guatemala on the slopes of Volcan Fuego. Coffee here is grown under dense shade at altitudes up to 2,100 meters. Eruptions from the nearby Fuego Volcano produce a mineral-rich soil, which ensures healthy coffee plants and allows this coffee to develop stunning characteristics in the cup.
The Asoproguate cooperative works with small farmers who each have around 5 hectares to cultivate. The cherries are hand harvested and most of the farmers rely on their immediate families to help them with this work, as the farms are small. After collection, they pulp and ferment them, before drying them in the sun.
